Greygum Alpacas 555 River Road, Kialla, Vic. 3631

Young Jack Bird ... driving the future direction in alpacas.

Welcome to the website of Trevis & Tammy Bird of Greygum Alpaca Stud. Our property is situated at Kialla, 10 minutes south of Shepparton in the northern centre of Victoria, Australia.

Our decision back in 1997 to invest in alpacas was an easy one, due to them being low maintenance and gentle and easy to handle.  After doing significant research we found the Alpaca industry was here to stay and there was potential to make a generous return from our investment.

We are smaller breeders with a herd of 40 animals of varied solid colours including white, fawn, brown & black.  We have always believed in investing in top genetics so as to receive the best results possible in our herd.

Our goals have always been to breed for top quality alpacas of solid colour, low micron, good lustre, density and good crimp and staple definition.  We have aimed to have a herd of top quality females producing genetically advanced offspring, which in turn we can offer for sale to other breeders both new and old.

To gain the best genetics we found ourselves regularly travelling to Matthew & Catherine Lloyds Stud – Eringa Park Cambridge or E.P. Cambridge as it is now known.  Over the years we built a solid friendship which brought about a job offer to manage their herd in South Australia.  After the initial shock of going from 40 animals to over a thousand we found it to be a rewarding challenge and great experience.  We were involved in all aspects of running the farm including alpaca management, husbandry, matings, showing and sales/service.

This experience means that we have had the chance to work with the best selection of top quality Sires and Dams in Australia.  With us and EP Cambridge both participating in the JD Map Programme it has made it easy for animals to travel between the two properties.
